Cloaking Bad or Not?

Cloaking is a simple script that is meant to customized pages being displayed for each person browsing a website. Location, user restrictions, gender, age are some of the criteria to limit or at least control the viewing experience of every visitors. Google themselves applies cloaking. For example, if you will see different search result for a given keyword from www.google.com.us and www.google.com because google applies cloaking techniques. There is nothing wrong with this technique.

But then in the blackhat world, this technique can be very very useful to dramatically improve the SERP of a website. Cloaking is being exploited to hide garbage webpages that are only meant to be seen by search engine crawlers. What I mean is cloaking is employed by spamdexers to hide garbage html webpages from the viewing public. For example, I will load thousands of keyword stuffed html webpages but when people tries to view them it only redirects them to the main webpage so people would not see anything wrong with it but if the search engine crawlers check the webpages there is no redirect and will just continue crawling the contents preloaded with phrases targeting a particular keyword. What happens is that even though the main website contains very few sentences, it would still get very high ranking on search engines.

Well this is bad because search engine crawlers are not really that intelligent to recognize webpages that makes no sense at all. It would be so much better if they improve the crawling algorithm using Artificial Intelligence technologies just the Intelligent Sentence Analyzer algorithm that was blogged by a friend of mine.

Keyword Stuffing

A lot of webmasters, website owners and bloggers are struggling hard to write very useful and informative contents and are also working hard doing a lot of backlinkings and seo's that includes the most precious onsite optimization which is meant mainly to enable their websites/blogs to rank higher in search engines and therefore get a lot of visitors.

SEO is such a difficult process and would take months before the result is realized. Now here comes the blackhats, they have found a way to outdo these struggling webmasters, website owners and bloggers with their dirty tackticks...the keyword stuffing techniques. Search Engines was not able to recognize this techniques when this technique was first applied. Way before we knew it, everytime we search something, search engines give a lot of results but when people click on them, these search results turned out to be garbages and therefore considered bad searches. And naturally whose reputation was being destroyed by this unethical method? Of course the search engines themselves so they have to improve their search algorithm to detect such spamdexers.

So what is this keyword stuffing and how do they implement it one might ask. Well, keyword stuffing is a technique where in spamdexers loads a lot of of html pages(probably thousands of it) loaded with keywords and all of these html pages redirects to the main website. So when search enginges crawls each one of these pages, it would think that it was very old stuffs and giving all the linkjuice to the main website. Detection is quite impossible but you can easily check it manually and would immediately recognize that keyword stuffing was used.

At present, search engines can now detect keyword stuffing but not 100%. I know a lot of spamdexers who use this method to inflate their page rank therefore can still outdo other more deserving websites/blogs. But more recently, google has adviced that webmasters, website owners and bloggers not to focus on Page Rank but concentrate on producing highly relevant, original and very informative contents because these 3 are the kings of SEO but then I got to think, why don't they just srop the PR thing if they can't stop the spamdexers? We don't know the answer only they can answer the question.
